Check for leaks first... PLEASE. August 17, 2010 Mike D. 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When this item works, I'm sure it's fine... given all of the reviews on here. However, if you buy this thing, please please PLEASE test the gas line first by hooking up your propane tank before you assemble it. Mine had a leak and I wasted about two hours in assembly/disassembly time because I had to send it back. Totally demoralizing. Testing the gas line would have taken less than five minutes.
Company is sending me a new one now, but all in all this will end up being a four hour plus project instead of about half that.
Lighting it is a chore. August 8, 2010 MC It has been a disappointment. We have had a few occasions when we needed heat and had a group of adults present. It became a contest to see who would be able to get it started and lit. ( A full, new tank of gas.) If someone else has had this problem and has discovered a solution please let me know!
More work than it's worth July 29, 2010 Laurie A. Longi (Connecticut) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
My sister and I ordered this heater for my dad for Father's Day for their deck. We got the copper one. The directions were okay and it took about 30 minutes to put together with two people. However, the inside of the hood was completely rusted and cracking off in large pieces. The outside looked okay but after it rained, it looked like there were going to be permanent spots. We called amazon to get the name and number of the company and the number they gave us was simply for a store called Garden Sun that sold solar powered heaters...good job amazon. The directions/manual had NO website or phone number for the company. Google didn't get us anywhere. We called amazon again who eventually, once we spoke to a supervisor, offered to send us the same color and pick up the old one. We chose to just return it instead b/c we didn't want the risk and hassle of receiving another defective one, especially if it doesn't even heat well. Fortunately, we have the box still and amazon sent us a return label even though it was after the 30 days return policy. We can't speak to how it heated, if it worked or how much propane it used but the quality of the material was enough to disappoint us. I'd rather buy an item like this in the store so I can physically assess it and make sure it is acceptable.
Not much heat unless you are standing right next to it April 30, 2010 M. Hershfield (Point of Rocks, MD) Got this heater back in January. The first time I used it, it was 20 degrees outside and the heater did not provide any heat unless you were virtually touching it. I used the heater again when it was 50 degrees and once again, not much heat at all. This was a waste of money and probably one of the worst purchases I have made in the past year. I should have gone with the popcorn cart
Great heater and good price April 5, 2010 K. Ebenbach (Miami, FL) It works wonderfully at heating a small seating area, especially if you can block the wind in one direction (which we did with a tarp on one side of our tent - for safety reasons, you cannot enclose the area where it's operating however). The price was the same as renting one locally so it was an easy decision to buy it. We were able to purchase this heater on Amazon Prime and receive it in time for our outdoor party in (what was then fairly chilly winter) Miami a couple days later. It works well, is easy to move around and to start up. All around, a great buy!
